Whether you’re looking to restore lost volume, soften fine lines, or simply enhance your natural features, your first filler appointment is an exciting milestone in your skincare journey. At TOULA, we believe that the best results come from a blend of expert technique and thoughtful preparation.
Our philosophy is rooted in the idea that "prevention is key, and consistency drives lasting change." To ensure your experience is as seamless - and your results as radiant - as possible, we’ve put together the ultimate guide on what to do (and what to avoid) before walking through our doors at King West.
1. Schedule a Consultation First
Before the needle even touches your skin, the most important step is a conversation. At TOULA, every injectable journey begins with a Personalized Consultation. This is where our lead cosmetic nurse injector, Megan Phillips, assesses your unique facial anatomy and discusses your goals.
Whether you are interested in traditional dermal fillers or biostimulatory treatments like Sculptra®, we focus on subtle, balanced outcomes. We want you to look like the best version of yourself - never "done," just refreshed.
2. Mind Your Meds (and Your Menu)
To minimize the risk of bruising and swelling, you’ll want to look at your medicine cabinet and your social calendar about a week out. Certain substances can thin the blood, making you more prone to "social downtime."
-
Avoid Blood Thinners: If cleared by your doctor, try to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), and naproxen for 7 days prior.
-
Watch Your Supplements: High doses of Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, and Garlic supplements can also increase bruising.
-
The 48-Hour Rule: We recommend avoiding alcohol and limiting caffeine for 48 hours before your visit. Alcohol acts as a vasodilator, which can increase the chance of swelling at the injection site.
3. Prime Your Skin with the Right Topicals
Your skin's health impacts how you heal. In the days leading up to your appointment, focus on hydration and barrier support. However, you should hit "pause" on your more aggressive "active" products.
-
Stop Retinoids: Cease the use of Retin-A, Retinols, and Glycolic Acid 2–3 days before your appointment to prevent any unnecessary skin sensitivity.
-
Focus on Hydration: Instead, reach for a nourishing serum like the Glow Deep Serum or a calming moisturizer like the R.E.D. Blemish Clear Soothing Cream to ensure your skin barrier is resilient.
4. Timing is Everything
If you have a wedding, a gala, or a major presentation on the calendar, resist the urge to book your filler at the last minute. While many clients experience minimal downtime, I always recommend a four-week buffer before any high-stakes event. This timeline ensures that the filler has the necessary two weeks to fully "settle" and any minor bruising to resolve; more importantly, it allows a window for a touch-up at the two-week mark with an additional two weeks of healing to ensure everything is absolutely perfect for your big day.
5. Arrive with a "Clean Slate"
On the day of your appointment, we invite you to come as you are - ideally with a clean, makeup-free face. This allows us to properly sanitize the treatment area and see your natural skin tone and contours clearly. If you’re coming straight from work, don’t worry; we can help you cleanse with a gentle option like the Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser before we begin.
6. Post-Treatment Support
Preparation doesn't end when you leave the chair. To protect your investment and maintain that TOULA glow, sun protection is non-negotiable. Ensure you have a high-quality SPF ready for the days following your treatment. We love the Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 for its sheer, mineral-based protection that won't irritate freshly treated skin.
Why Choose TOULA for Your Injectables?
At TOULA, we aren't just another med spa. We are a sanctuary designed to elevate your self-care ritual. Our approach to Injectables is conservative and artful. We believe in the "future of face" - using science-backed technology and medical expertise to deliver results that look entirely natural.
If you’re a new client, we often suggest starting with our New Client Facial Intro Offer. This includes a 20-minute advanced skin assessment using South Korean diagnostic technology. Understanding your skin’s hydration levels and elasticity can help us better tailor your injectable plan for long-term success.
